AT&T Fiber uses an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box mounted outside or in a utility closet. If the ONT shows a red or flashing light it is a line issue — call AT&T. No home restart will fix a line problem.

Check your BGW320 gateway
If the ONT is solid green but internet is still down restart your gateway — unplug for 60 seconds, plug back in, wait 3 minutes.

Physical fiber cable cuts are the most common cause — usually from nearby construction, landscaping, or vehicle accidents hitting above-ground fiber infrastructure. Fiber outages also occur from severe weather, equipment failures at AT&T optical nodes, and power failures at AT&T facilities.
Is AT&T Fiber more reliable than DSL?+
Yes — fiber-to-the-home is generally more reliable than DSL because it is not affected by distance from the DSLAM or copper wire degradation. However when fiber does go down it typically affects all customers on the same fiber node simultaneously rather than individual lines.
My AT&T Fiber was just installed — why is it down already?+
New fiber installations occasionally have loose connector issues at the ONT or a misconfiguration. Call AT&T at 800-288-2020 and reference that it is a new installation — they will escalate to the install team.
How long do AT&T Fiber outages last?+
